My Northwest Home

from My Northwest Home by Wes Weddell

about

A year or so before I embarked upon The Project, I took a bold step and began playing bluegrass music in places outside of my bedroom. I loved most every aspect of the new challenges that I faced, but I often felt strange trying to summon the emotions necessary to sing believably about coal mining from my comfortable Western upbringing. “My Northwest Home,” then, is my attempt to produce a bluegrassy song that I could sing with unassailable legitimacy. I think this may have lead to further thoughts of ‘musical identity of place,’ which lead in turn to The Project itself, and the rest is history…or at least worthy of history credit.

The various details of the song are true, although some arrive through a more subjective lens than others.
